"Ultimatum" is the 18th episode of the second season of Exosquad.

Marsala is kidnapped by former members of the Venus resistance, who demand that all Neosapiens, whether loyal to ExoFleet or not, be deported from the planet. James Burns, who has been fitted with prosthetics, decides to help his sister and try to rescue Marsala alone. He is able to infiltrate the kidnappers' ranks by pretending to be sympathetic to their cause, and later tries to sneak Marsala out. Some Neosapien holdouts attack the encampment, and though James is able to save Marsala, it is at the cost of his own life.

  • When the kidnappers approach Marsala as he works in a garden:
Krueger: "Do what I tell you, sape, or you'll be pushin' up daisies instead of pickin' 'em."
Marsala: "Actually I was pulling weeds, and depositing them in this receptacle." (picks up garbage can and dumps it on Krueger's head)

Significant events, revelations, and other notesEdit

  • Marsh's dream at the beginning of the episode may indicate that although we will never see Noretti again after the previous episode, it will continue to haunt J.T.
  • James injuries were primarily on the right side of his body. On that side his eye, arm, and leg had all been replaced by prosthetics.
  • The Neosapiens still resisting the ExoFleet takeover on Venus seem very well supplied. Although this group is no longer a threat, there are likely more who will cause ExoFleet problems that we aren't shown.
    • In addition to the Neosapien holdouts, how many members of the Venus Resistance will seek vengence?
  • Krueger shows that he loathes Neosapiens. In "Venus Rising" he attempted to execute some that had surrended.
  • Compounding the tradgedy of James death is the fact that he was apparently making progress in accepting and utilizing his artificial limbs. Also, the willingness to help Marsala indicates he would have been able to make an easier transition to a peacetime lifestyle. His obsession with obtaining revenge against Draconis would have been the biggest obstacle.
    • Considering that the Draconis in question was certainly executed in "Miracle", would James have sought revenge against the clone?
