The Jumptroops are Exotroopers trained in tactical insertion into the battlefield from the air, thereby allowing them to be positioned in areas not accessible by land. It is one of the three types of "forced entry" strategic techniques for entering a theater of war; the other two are by land and sea.

This ability to enter the battle from different locations allows Jumptroops to evade fortifications that are in place to prevent attack from a specific direction, and the possible use of Jumptroops forces an army to spread their defenses to protect other areas which would otherwise be safe by virtue of the geography.

The jumptroops maintained an inter-service rivalry with the E-frame squads. This ranged from professional rivalry, such as the Alpha 627 incident to the personal rivalry seen between J.T. Marsh and Avery F. Butler.

In the Pirate Clans War, Jumptroops used Parachute Pods of a box design. These pods could be steered to a small degree by using a navigation console within the pods. Additionally, the Exotroopers were armed merely with small arms weaponry as they depended on E-frames for heavy ordinance.

In the Neosapien War, the Jumptroops still used Parachute Pods but were modified to be more round in shape to accommodate the new light E-Frames that the Jumptroops adopted. The light E-Frames give Jumptroops more firepower in addition to the ability to tie up Neosapien ground forces that the old Jumptroops would have been no match against.

In terms of Exofleet protocol, the Jumptroops are usually dispatched into battle by an Jumptroop Dropship, or dubbed Jumpship, and more often enough are accompanied with an E-Frame liaison to help coordinate precision strikes from the air. Often in time of war, these roles and procedures changed on the fly, where Jumptroops were used as mere infantry to round up pockets of resistance in the Venusian forests and have even been dropped from the hangar decks of Exocarriers and Pirate Spaceships into combat zones.
